Clippers beat Bulldogs 7-4, extend win streak to five

NANAIMO — The Clippers used the force on their Star Wars themed night to beat the Bulldogs 7-4.

Nanaimo’s offense once again took centre stage with seven different goal scorers.

Gabriel Westling opened the scoring six minutes into the game but Alberni Valley tied it on a marker by Fischer O’Brien late in the first period.

After giving up a goal early in the middle frame to the Bulldogs Braden Blace, Nanaimo caught fire.

Emmett McHardy tallied and then Willyam Gendron and Isa Parekh had power play goals to stake the Clippers to a 4-2 lead.

Jimmy Lyver narrowed the gap to one with a last minute goal but Nanaimo came right back and took a 5-3 advantage on a Cole Lonsdale penalty shot with three seconds left before the second intermission.

Luke Buss and Andrew Brown, into an empty net, scored in the third period for the Clippers with Hayden Stavroff counting for Alberni.

Nanaimo outshot Alberni Valley 34-33 while both teams were productive on their limited power plays.

The Clippers went 2/3 and the the Bulldogs finished 1/2.

Tyler Hodges recorded the win and has been in net during five consecutive Nanaimo victories.

Willyam Gendron had a goal and an assist finishing the night tied for first in BCHL scoring with 28 points.

Nanaimo is now 2-3-1 against Alberni Valley this season with one more head to head game at Weyerhauser Arena Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
