Sword-carrying suspect exposes himself after being denied entry to Nanaimo gym

NANAIMO — Local police are looking for a suspect they say exposed his genitals to staff at a local gym after he was refused entry.

Police say on Monday, Oct. 30 at around 7:00 p.m. the suspect tried to enter Fitness World at Country Club Centre on the N. Island Hwy., but was refused entry due to apparently being intoxicated.

Nanaimo RCMP Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien said the suspect took exception to not being allowed in.

“He went outside, he banged on the doors, and the next thing you know he drops his pants and exposed himself to the front counter staff.”

O’Brien said it was reported the suspect was also carrying a sword on his back.

Staff contacted police but the suspect was gone by the time they arrived minutes later.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man of average height and weight, with brown hair and a beard.

“What we often do is we send it internally to all of our police officers, and there’s 160 plus, and nobody could identify that person,” said O’Brien. “So he’s obviously not on our radar, or he’s from somewhere else.”

Anyone with information into this case is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, citing case number #2023-37884.
