Ladysmith RCMP search for masked man after woman dragged into wooded area

LADYSMITH — Local Mounties are searching for an average-height man with a slim build after a reported assault on Remembrance Day.

A woman reported to police she was grabbed from behind and dragged into a wooded area by a man around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 on Transfer Beach Blvd., near Oyster Bay Dr.

Cpl. Alex Bérubé said the incident occurred near the railway tracks.

“We are asking anyone who was in the area…on the evening of Nov. 11 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. is asked to contact the Ladysmith RCMP, especially if they saw a person matching the description of the suspect, or anyone seen loitering in the area that evening.”

The woman was shaken but physically unharmed and RCMP Victim Services is supporting her moving forward.

She told officers the man eventually let go of her shortly after dragging her into the wooded area.

The attacker is described as approximately 5’9″ tall with a slim build and dark-coloured eyes. He was wearing dark cargo pants and a dark top at the time of the incident.

He also had a black ski mask or balaclava on.

Police Dog Services were called to the scene but were unable to locate anyone connected to the incident.

Ladysmith RCMP are also asking the public for any dash cam footage of the area around the same time to contact them at 250 245 2215.
