NANAIMO — The Clippers suffered a difficult 4-2 home ice loss to the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Nanaimo started well with a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Joel Plante on the power play and Michael Murtagh.

From there the last place Capitals started to chip away.

Nanaimo native Luke Lavery narrowed the gap to 2-1 early in the second period and then Cowichan Valley added three more goals in the third.

Newcomers Andrej Kovacevic (power play) and Gavin Giesbrecht scored goals four minutes apart in their first game with their new team and Ronan O’Donnell added an empty netter.

Nanaimo was outshot 36-26 on the night while going 1/2 on the man advantage and 3/4 on the penalty kill.

Emerik Despatie took the win in goal over the Clippers Tyler Hodges.

Of note for Nanaimo Willyam Gendron extended his point streak to seven games while Michael Murtagh added to his team leading scoring totals with a goal and an assist.

Cowichan snapped a 10 game losing streak with the victory and recorded just their second win of the BCHL season.

The loss was the Clippers third in a row as they look forward to a pair of matchups with top Coastal Division teams.

On Nov. 10 Nanaimo hosts the Victoria Grizzlies and then they head off to Alberni Valley on Nov. 11.
