NANAIMO — The Clippers had one too many deficits to climb out of in a 6-4 loss to the Chilliwack Chiefs.

Nanaimo did come back from being down 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, but couldn’t recover from a 4-3 tally against 11 minutes into the third period.

Savin Virk opened the scoring for the Chiefs but then Cole Lonsdale tied the game in the opening period with his eighth goal of the season.

Elliot Dutil and Nanaimo’s Connor Haynes traded goals in the middle frame before Dylan Kinch gave Chilliwack a 40 minute lead.

Mike Murtagh knotted the game at 3-3 just 30 seconds into the final period but the Chiefs responded with three goals in just under five minutes halfway through the third to go up 6-3.

Matteo Mrsic, Brady Milburn on the power play and Brian Morse shorthanded put the game out of reach.

Connor DeTurris scored with 10 seconds left to run his goal scoring streak to three games, making the final 6-4.

The shots were 36-26 in favour of the Chiefs with Vladimir Nikitin getting the win over Tyler Hodges.

Nanaimo went 1/4 on the power play and 4/5 killing penalties.

The Clippers next game is Wednesday Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. versus the Alberni Valley Bulldogs
