Criminal investigation leads RCMP officers to considerable south Nanaimo drug bust

NANAIMO — A tip from a separate investigation led to a sizeable seizure of drugs.

A search warrant used by local Mounties at a south Nanaimo home on Oct. 18 revealed information indicating another home may be a focal point for the local drug trade.

Cst. Simon Gallimore told NanaimoNewsNOW police obtained another warrant for the second home, leading to a large quantity of drugs and other items “obviously setup for trafficking purposes”.

“It’s definitely a disruption to the local drug trade for sure. Putting a value on it is difficult…definitely some people along the line are feeling the pinch and not just the person who was arrested.”

Over 1.6 kilograms of hard drugs were seized, suspected to be a mixture of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine.

Officers were also able to locate one prohibited overcapacity pistol magazine.

Subsequent searches of other locations linked to the property uncovered large volumes of cash.

Gallimore was unable to be more specific on which specific properties were searched.

“The investigation is continuing, it’s a long process before us getting to charge approval: lab analysis, expert opinions and all that kind of stuff has to be done, but we feel pretty confident about how things are going so far.”

One man was arrested on drug charges, however charges have not been laid and therefore he cannot be identified.

Processing and packaging materials were also found in the busts.
