Clippers on wrong side of offensive battle with 8-6 loss to Trail

SEATTLE — The Clippers were in a goal fest in their BCHL Showcase game against Trail.

Nanaimo lost 8-6 in an all out offensive battle.

Trail opened the scoring on a courter attack goal by Callas Pierce but the Clippers led 3-2 after the first period on markers by Willyam Gendron, Connor Haynes and Andrew Brown.

Haynes added another goal early in the middle frame but then the Clippers gave up a six goal run that saw the Smoke Eaters take an 8-4 lead into the late stages of the contest.

Emmett McHardy and Connor DeTurris scored late goals to shore up the 8-6 final.

Haynes led the Clippers attack with two goals while Gendron and Brown had a goal and an assist each and Brett Merner had two assists.

The Smoke Eaters had two goal outings from Adam Marshall and Callas Pierce and a one goal and one assist performance by Max Potvin and Ridge Dawson.

Nanaimo went 1/5 on the power play and 3/5 on the penalty kill while outshooting Trail 35-32.

Teagan Kendrick took the win in net over the Clippers Tyler Hodges.

DeTurris and newly acquired Luke Buss both played their first games of the season for Nanaimo, DeTurris came away with a goal and Buss notched an assist.

The Clippers wrap up the BCHL Showcase in Seattle with a game against Prince George on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 4:50 p.m.

Then they return home to take on Chilliwack on Oct. 28.
