Town of Qualicum Beach seeks opinions to refine waterfront park plan

Oct 22, 2023 | 7:47 AM

QUALICUM BEACH — Public input is being gathered to help formulate a detailed plan for Saahtlam Park, formally known as St. Andrews Waterfront Park.

Purchased in 2018, the Town-owned property has a draft concept plan in place featuring beach access pathways, a play area, outdoor performance space, seating areas and parking enhancements.

An online survey, available to be filled out before Nov. 3, allows people to offer their insight in forming a detailed plan, which expands on a conceptual plan in 2020.

“The Detailed Plan will include specific information about the site, facilities, amenities, landscaping, and programming, and will help guide decision-making, park development, and amenity upgrades over the next ten years and beyond,” noted a Town of Qualicum Beach news release.

An outdoor shower, food truck locations, as well as park washroom and change room in historic St. Andrews Lodge are proposed.

The survey, linked here, takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Featuring more than 70 meters of waterfront, Saahtlam Park was gifted its name by Qualicum First Nation, which translates to ‘the green at the mouth of the river.’

The Town of Qualicum Beach expects a detailed plan for Saahtlam Park will be complete early in 2024.

More information on the project can be found here.
