Timbermen Sheridan and Soucy selected in NLL Draft

NANAIMO — Two members of the Nanaimo Timbermen have joined the ranks of the National Lacrosse League.

In the Saturday, Sept. 16 entry draft Ryan Sheridan was picked fifth overall by Panther City, based in Fort Worth, Texas, and Evan Soucy went 37th to Calgary.

Nanaimo Timbermen president Chris Bowman said Sheridan will bring elite level offense to Panther City.

“I think he has the potential to be a top ten scorer in the league. He’s a supreme athlete, he’s got amazing finish and he’s a huge body. He can do anything asked of him on the offensive side of the floor.”

Sheridan had 24 points in 13 regular season games in his rookie year in the WLA and added ten points, including seven goals, in four 2023 playoff games.

Bowman said Soucy has expanded his skill set at the defensive end of the floor.

“He’s a lights out defender but he really showed his strength in transition this year by scoring more goals and pushing the ball up the floor quicker.”

In Soucy’s first year of Senior A he had seven points in 17 games and one point in three post season appearances.

National Lacrosse League training camps are slated to open on Oct. 28 with the regular season set to open on Dec. 1.

Both Sheridan and Soucy are expected to have prominent roles on the Senior A Timbermen when the next WLA campaign begins in May of 2024.
