COOMBS — A small-town fair near Parksville is punching above its weight class.

In excess of 2,000 attendees are expected each day for the Coombs Fair, which has been running for well over 100 years, said an excited event coordinator Katherine Prenger.

She said a full range of events are scheduled on Saturday, Aug 12 and Sunday, Aug. 13 at the Coombs fairgrounds on Ford Rd.

“The fairgrounds itself is owned by the Arrowsmith Agricultural Association and completely volunteer run. We do have a lot of support from our 4H community as well.”

A substantial poultry show will see more than 200 birds on hand as part of numerous other agricultural demonstrations.

“The Coombs Fair is your quintessential, every traditional quaint country fair. We don’t have a midway, our pride and joy is all of the animals on the grounds.”

An entertainment stage includes well-known west coast artists Eric Harper (Saturday) and Daniel Wesley (Sunday).

Craig The Magician returns to the Coombs Fair for shows both afternoons on the main stage, while he’ll also be roaming the site entertaining children, Prenger noted.

Several food trucks, community vendors and the concession will be open, all of whom are accepting cash-only, Prenger said, citing spotty cell reception.

There will be lots to do for children at the event, with several bouncy castles and a fairy house on the lower grounds.

Entry fees are $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 to 12-years-old and seniors, while children six and under are free.

Paid parking is available adjacent to the venue.
