NANAIMO — Grab your family for a day of fun this Sunday, but you can leave your wallet at home.

The Oceanside Church on Jingle Pot Rd. in Nanaimo is holding its 24th annual Love Your City event at Maffeo Sutton Park on Sunday, July 30 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Pastor Andrew Arnold said this annual event is a chance for them to show love to their community.

“Nanaimo as a city is a huge blessing to us, each person in our church lives in the city, loves this city, wants to see the city do well and flourish, and wants to love our neighbours as best as possible. This is just a free gift to the city.”

Arnold said the event draws thousands of people to the park every year for free entertainment, which includes food and drinks, live music, and plenty of entertainment for the kids.

He said it’s a cost the people at the Oceanside Church are more than willing to absorb.

“The joy that we get to see on the community’s faces and the thousands of people that end up walking through Maffeo Sutton park on the day, especially kids, who eat just tons of popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs and enjoy all the inflatables free of charge, it’s just so awesome. It’s worth every penny.”

Arnold said families won’t have to worry about saving or budgeting for the event, as kids can enjoy as many activities as they have the energy for.

And while the kids are burning off energy in the bouncy castle, inflatable slide or obstacle course, their parents can enjoy plenty of live musical entertainment.

“It’s amazing every year and we’re just so thankful for the city for allowing us to bless the people. God’s been a blessing to us so we want to be a blessing to others.”
