Harbourside FC notch first win in franchise history

NANAIMO — The Harbour City’s newest sporting attraction is officially on the board with their first win.

Harbourside FC’s men’s team notched a 1-0 victory over Nautsa’mawt FC on Sunday, May 7, from q’unq’inuqwstuxw Stadium.

Suka Behery, who scored the team’s first ever goal a week prior, buried a 50th minute penalty kick after striker Taylor Arbour was hauled down in the box.

Behery beat Nautsa’mawt goalkeeper Bennett McKay with a shot into the left side of the net.

Harbourside were able to maintain their lead despite a late and sustained push from the visitors.

Goalkeeper Marko Ilich led the way defensively with a series of excellent saves, while also managing the game flow and his defence in front.

A key moment late in the contest was a penalty call for Nautsa’mawt, however, the shot from Tomas Pena in the 76th minute rolled well wide of the goal.

The win improves the men’s record to one win and two draws after the same two teams played to a 0-0 draw on Saturday, May 6 in Vancouver.

They currently sit first in the League1 BC standings.

Harbourside FC’s women’s team fell in both their games over the weekend against Nautsa’mawt by 7-1 and 8-0 scores.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will travel to Langley to take on the TSS Rovers on Saturday, May 13 before returning home to host Victoria on Friday, May 19.
