NANAIMO — There is set to be a change at the top of City Hall.

Jake Rudolph, City of Nanaimo chief administrative officer, announced his retirement effective mid-July, on Friday, April 21. It will end a career spanning more than 40 years including nearly five in the City’s top job.

“I would like to thank the many people who have supported me in this role, including staff for the great work they do and Council for the leadership they have provided. We are a great organization in a remarkable City and it has been a privilege to be CAO.”

City Council will determine how the position is filled.

Prior to coming to Nanaimo, Rudolph held a similar job for the City of Pitt Meadows.

In addition to his work at the municipal government level, Rudolph also spent time as President of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators.

Mayor Leonard Krog said Rudolph’s commitment to working with Council was forefront in the positive steps forward taken over recent years.

“Mr. Rudolph has more than earned his retirement and I will be forever grateful to him, as should all the citizens of Nanaimo, for his courage in taking on the role of CAO given the significant challenges at the time he was hired.”

It’s not clear whether Rudolph will overlap with his successor or if the City will operate for a period of time without a CAO.
