REVELSTOKE — It was a dream start for the Oceanside Generals at the B.C. Junior B Championships.

The team dispatched the host Revelstoke Grizzlies by a 5-1 score on Thursday, April 13 to open their run at the Cyclone Taylor Cup.

Scoring for the Generals came early with Evan Dyce breaking the deadlock just under five minutes in.

Revelstoke scored on a powerplay a few minutes later but it was as close as the game got again, with the Generals scoring four unanswered.

Ethan Hawes, who assisted on the opening goal, scored on the powerplay with one second remaining in the first period for the Generals to lead 2-1 after 20.

Shots narrowly favoured Oceanside 9-6.

Carter Johnson, who scored the overtime winner in game six against Saanich to win the VIJHL Championship, tallied to make it 3-1 at 16:06 of the second period.

Through 40, shots still favoured Oceanside by a 19-16 margin.

A goal from Brendan Carlson inside the opening minute of the third all but put the game beyond reach with Dante Paziuk extending the lead midway through.

Revelstoke outshot Oceanside 12-6 in the final period. The Generals went 1/2 on their powerplay, while Revelstoke’s lone goal came on one of their four man-advantage opportunities.

Matthew Hutchison went the distance for the Generals, stopping 27 of 28 in the victory.

Oceanside will take on the PJHL Champion Delta Ice Hawks on Friday, April 14 at 1 p.m. then the KIJHL Champion Kimberley Dynamiters on Saturday, April 15.

Kimberley beat Delta 2-1 in overtime in the early game on Thursday.

The top two teams from the round robin advance to the championship game on Sunday, April 16.
