‘Enough is enough:’ Nanaimo residents rally for more action on keeping communities safe
NANAIMO — It was a clear, concise message from local residents fed up with violence in their community.
Over 100 people gathered at Pearson Park near downtown Nanaimo on Thursday, March 16, pleading for more action from the government on repeat, violent offenders. The rally was held near where a local business owner was shot on Sunday, attempting to recover his stolen items at a nearby encampment.
Dwayne Dilworth is from a neighbourhood watch group in Dawson Creek and was invited to speak at the rally. He said the actions they’ve taken have paid off.
“We just do patrols in our community, when we see them up to no good we call the RCMP. We’ve seen the crime drop tremendously, but it’s moving to the outer area.”
