New BC Ferries app streamlining travel bookings on the go

NANAIMO — Customers navigating summer ferry travel can now manage their trips a little easier.

BC Ferries launched a new mobile app on Monday, March 13, which provides easy access to an array of information quickly while also allowing travellers to view, make or change their bookings.

Spokesperson Deborah Marshall told NanaimoNewsNOW the app is available for a free download on both the Apple and Google app stores.

“(Travellers can) access information about schedules, current conditions as well as make bookings right from the convenience of their phone. They’re also able to save travel preferences for a route of their choice.”

By saving travel preferences for local routes, users of the app can easily access the current conditions for a specific sailing regardless of whether they’re travelling or not.

Marshall said it’s a significant step forward for customers, who’d previously been directed to a mobile version of the BC Ferries website.

“Prior to this, customers could access information on our website. We have recently revamped our website so this was the next logical step, to take the information on the website and offer it on handheld devices.”

The app also allows quick access to both the terminal webcams and tracking of BC Ferries vessels.

Direct download links are available through the BC Ferries website.
