NANAIMO — The Clippers rebounded from a difficult loss to Surrey to close out 2022 with a 4-3 win over Langley.

Despite giving up the first goal to the Rivermen’s Owen Kim, Nanaimo played a very strong first period and got goals from their top three forwards.

Jake Hewitt scored on his own rebound, Kai Daniells got behind the defence to deke out goalie Taje Gill on a power play and Brody Waters tipped in a long range shot by Ethan Mistry.

Waters ripped home a shot early in the second period to put Nanaimo up 4-1.

Langley chipped away at the lead with an odd man rush goal by Brett Ursulak in the middle frame and a marker from Andrej Kovacevic halfway through the third.

Aidan Campbell shut the door down the stretch to secure his 18th victory of the season.

Nanaimo outshot Langley 48-35 with the Clippers going 1/4 on the man advantage and 2/2 killing penalties.

The Clippers ended 2022 with a record of 24-5-1 and a six point lead for first place in the Coastal Division.

They open 2023 with a home game against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Friday, Jan. 6.
