Clippers go into Christmas break with 6-3 win over Capitals

NANAIMO — The Clippers scored three minutes into their Teddy Bear Toss game and cruised to a 6-3 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Willyam Gendron scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal and finished he game with two goals, and assist and first star honours.

The Clippers two other French Canadians were stars in the game as well as Charles Tardif grabbed two goals and was the second star and Jeremie Payant had three assists in his third star performance.

Nanaimo led 4-1 after the first period and the two teams traded goals in both the second and third periods.

Two of Cowichan’s three goals were scored shorthanded, while the Clippers scored five goals at even strength and one (by Michael Craig) on a power play.

The shots finished 42-27 for Nanaimo with Shane Shelest getting the win over McCoy Bidewell.

Nanaimo heads into a 13 day break with points in eight straight games including seven wins and an overtime loss.

In contrast the Capitals are on a nine game losing streak.

The Clippers have a 5-0 record against the Capitals and have a six point lead over their closest division rival, the Surrey Eagles.

Nanaimo will visit Surrey in their next game on Dec. 30.
