Clippers handle Centennials 7-3

NANAIMO — With several of their alumni in attendance the Clippers routed the Merritt Centennials 7-3.

Merritt did score first but once Mike Murtagh tied the game late in the first period Nanaimo never looked back.

Murtagh finished with two goals, Brody Waters had a pair of goals and an assist and Kai Daniells, Charles Tardif and Michael Craig also scored in the victory.

Nanaimo outshot Merritt 48-35 with Shane Shelest getting the victory in goal in his first start since Nov. 7.

Both teams had a pair of power play goals with the Clippers getting ten man advantage chances to the Centennials four.

Nanaimo has won four games in a row to up their record to 20-4 on the season.

Merritt and Nanaimo last played on Dec. 15, 2019 coincidentally the Clippers also scored seven goals that night in a 7-0 victory.

They hit the road for a game in Alberni Valley on Dec. 9 before returning home Dec. 11 versus Coquitlam.
