NANAIMO — The remarkable 2022 for Nanaimo Senior A Timbermen continued at the National Lacrosse League Draft.

Four T-Men players were selected in the first round with Austin Madronic sixth overall to Saskatchewan, Will Johansen seventh to Albany, Colton Lidstone 21st to Panther City and Taggart Clark the 23rd selection by Philadelphia.

A fifth Nanaimo player, Teioshontathe McComber, was chosen by Georgia in the third round.

Timbermen president Chris Bowman said it was a proud day for the organization.

“”It’s amazing, I’m so happy for them and their families. It’s the next big step in their careers and a pretty special day for them.”

Madronic was drafted to Nanaimo in the 2021 WLA draft but has yet to suit up for the Timbermen.

The other four players were integral pieces in the T-Men run to the league finals.

For Colton Lidstone it was even more special because he, Will Johansen and Taggart Clart are also teammates and roommates at Robert Morris University.

“Taggart is on Ontario guy and he came out to Nanaimo this year and Will, I’ve been playing lacrosse with him it seems like forever,” Lidstone said. “To get drafted together on that night, he actually came and sat with me when they called my name. It was special.”

Bowman attended the Sept. 10 NLL draft in Toronto.

He said the Timbermen are getting a lot of attention from pro teams.

“Lots of the GM’s came and chatted and said what a great group we put together and how close we were. With the Mann Cup on right now it’s interesting to see how we would have stacked up if we would have been fortunate enough to have made it.”

The Nanaimo Senior A team had it’s best season ever this past summer with a 12-6 regular season and a nine game run to the WLA finals.
