Second upskirt photo investigation launched by Nanaimo RCMP

NANAIMO — Local Mounties are investigating a second case of a man taking inappropriate photos of a woman.

On the same day and time of another similar incident, Nanaimo RCMP say a man was see using his phone to take a photo up the skirt of a woman at Walmart, around 2 p.m. on Friday, July 29.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the two incidents are not related, with this investigation triggered by the woman spotting the man.

“She caught sight of the individual who was crouched down beside her and a camera was angled up her skirt. She yelled at the individual and he walked away.”

The woman looked for staff who tried to locate the man, but he couldn’t be found. Police were later called.

The man is described as a caucasian male with muscular build, of average height and middle-aged. He was wearing a grey t-shirt, black baseball cap, shorts and sandals at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250 754 2345, quoting file number 2022-26084.

O’Brien said despite the incidents occurring on the same day, there is no connection at this time between this and a similar incident at Dollarama on Bruce Ave.

“This is just a coincidence. There is no connection between the two and this does happen from time to time. She reacted the way she did, she was startled, yelled at the individual and she went to get help, it’s exactly what someone should do.”

Police have identified the man believed responsible for the Bruce Ave. incident, however no charges have been laid and an investigation continues.
