NANAIMO — They came, they danced and they brought the house down.

Nanaimo’s Jacksun Fryer and Cowichan’s Carlow Rush, better known as Funkanometry, hit the America’s Got Talent main stage on Tuesday, Aug. 23 for their first voting-round performance.

The pair started with some clips from dances around Nanaimo before breaking down into a high-energy routine set to Earth, Wind and Fire’s “Boogie Wonderland”, MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This”, “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston.

“We do have a lot of very good technical dancers on the show who are also incredibly boring, you’re not,” Simon Cowell said after the performance. “I really enjoyed your audition, I loved the performance, I really like you two, I’m so happy you’re on the show tonight, we needed you and you’re one of my favourites.”

Praise however was less than stellar from the other judges, who suggested Fryer and Rush may not be ready for America’s Got Talent.

“I have to be honest, I can’t say that I loved it this time,” Heidi Klum said. “For me, it was not a step up since last time. For me it was more like a middle school talent show.”

Voting opened after the episode and closed early Wednesday morning. Results will be aired on the Wednesday, Aug. 24 episode.
