RCMP release image of suspect in connection to north Nanaimo shooting

NANAIMO — Police released a picture of a suspect who they say shot and injured a man outside a north Nanaimo home earlier this month.

Surveillance footage from the Laguna Way home at Lost Lake Rd. captured a suspect while walking up the driveway just prior to the shooting on July 7 at about 8 p.m.

Police say a man was shot in the leg outside the home during what police determined was a dispute between the suspect and a resident of the home.

The shooting resulted in serious, but non-life threatening injuries to a man in his early 30’s who was transported to hospital, and is now recovering at home.

Police believe the shooting was targeted.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien said they are also looking to identify the getaway driver.

“We don’t have any pictures of that person, but we know that individual was driving an older model white Honda Accord, so we’re hoping to get information on that as well.”

O’Brien said they are hoping someone has surveillance footage of the Honda Accord leaving the scene.

“That vehicle would have fled the area most likely at a high rate of speed, so if anybody has any information on that vehicle shortly before 8 o’clock arriving, and leaving after 8 o’clock, we would like to hear from them.”

Anybody with information on this incident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP’S non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2022-23386.
