VIDEO: Fire destroys north Nanaimo home along Metral Drive

NANAIMO — A home in north Nanaimo is completely destroyed following an overnight fire.

Fire Rescue crews were alerted to a blaze in the 5700 block of Metral Dr. shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Monday, July 11 after neighbours called 911.

Chief Tim Doyle told NanaimoNewsNOW three engines and one ladder truck responded.

“They arrived to a fully involved home on fire they quickly did an attack on the fire and got it under control and began to perform searches.”

No-one was home at the time of the fire. Police shut down traffic along Metral Dr. while fire crews worked over the scene.

Doyle said they’re still trying to contact the registered owner of the property.

“We can’t speak to the cause of the fire at this time because the fire is under investigation.”

Fire investigators were on scene later Monday morning working over the wreckage.
