Rogers customers cut off due to network outage

Jul 8, 2022 | 11:01 AM

NANAIMO — Communications giant Rogers says its technical teams are trying to fix a widespread service disruption impacting mobile and internet customers for the past several hours.

The outage is disrupting vital services, including the ability of impacted cell phone customers of Rogers Communications Inc. and Fido to call 911.

Retailers relying on Rogers’ debit and credit card services are having difficulties processing those forms of payment for the time being.

BC Ferries told customers to bring cash to the terminals.

“As service is intermittent, we kindly ask all customers to please carry cash if sailing today.”

Rogers Communications stated its teams are fully engaged to resolve the service disruptions as soon as possible.

“We will continue to keep you updated as we have more information to share.”

The Town of Qualicum Beach emphasized in a statement that the 911 system itself is not compromised.

Last year, Rogers Communications sustained a substantial wireless outage caused by a software update leaving customers without service.
