‘I’m so grateful:’ thousands of free books donated to Nanaimo area youth
NANAIMO — A non-profit organization teaming up with Vancouver Island University to give away 18,000 books for needy mid Island service providers.
First Book Canada in conjunction with four publishers supplied the new K-12 books for 75 regional organizations including schools, day cares, literacy centers, women’s shelters and Indigenous organizations.
Overjoyed Ecole North Oyster Elementary School teacher/librarian Helen Fall attended the opening of the two-day event in the cafeteria of VIU’s Nanaimo campus on Wednesday, June 29.
“I’m just so grateful, what an amazing opportunity this is,” Fall said as she filled up cardboard boxes with books for her students.
