Emergency 911 services out for some cell customers south of Nanaimo

May 30, 2022 | 4:14 PM

NANAIMO — Residents in Ladysmith and around Nanaimo Airport are experiencing some issues connecting to emergency services.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District published an alert saying Telus and Koodo customers were unable to access 911 through their cell phones due to an unspecified incident.

“People are asked to use an alternate cellular provider or a landline if they cannot get through to 911 using…their cellular device,” the CVRD’s alert read.

The outage appears to extend beyond just the CVRD with E-Comm -1-1, the province’s largest emergency communications centre, posting online they were getting reports from across the province.

Additional areas of concern were primarily in northern B.C.
