NANAIMO — A fire at a south-end business has caused damage to the exterior of the building.

Fire Rescue crews were called out to the 700 block of Haliburton St., at the corner of Robins St. just before 12 p.m. on Monday, May 16 after smoke was seen billowing from the building.

Incident commander Capt. Corey Gannon said four engines responded.

“There was smoke coming through the siding when we arrived on scene.”

It took firefighters roughly 30 minutes to extinguish, according to Gannon and no-one was inside when the fire began.

From the outside, it appeared most of the damage was contained to the front wall of the building, facing Haliburton St. with little damage inside the actual business.

The property is home to Complete Vending Systems, which stock and supply vending machines in the area.

Owners were not on scene at the time and were expected later Monday afternoon.

Investigators will pour over the scene on Tuesday to determine a cause, however it is not currently considered suspicious.
