NANAIMO — The red hot Nanaimo Clippers have home ice advantage ahead of the BCHL semi-final series versus a physical Langley Rivermen club.

Nanaimo is a perfect 8-0 in the playoffs so far following series sweeps against Surrey and most recently Chilliwack, while Langley outlasted Coquitlam in seven games, then topped Alberni Valley in five outings.

The clippers are the more rested team, having concluded its series with the Chiefs on April 19 with a 1-0 victory.

Nanaimo last met Langley in the playoffs in 2008, when the Clippers defeated what was then known as the Langley Chiefs in six games in the Coastal Conference Final.

Nanaimo, captained that year by Washington Capitals defenceman Matt Irwin, then lost out in Fred Page Cup to Penticton.

Clippers goaltender Cooper Black was named the BCHL’s first star of the week. The 6’8” giant from Alpena, Michigan registered a 2-0 record, including a shutout, a sparkling .986 save percentage and 0.46 save percentage.

Rivermen goalie Ajeet Gundarah earned second star of the week honours from the BCHL with a 2-2 record, .945 save percentage and 1.73 save percentage.

The BCHL’s Interior Conference Final has Penticton taking on West Kelowna, which also begins on Friday, April 29.
