NANAIMO — Local Mounties have a lead in their investigation into an apparently random attack in north Nanaimo.

Two girls were bear sprayed in their home after an individual entered suddenly on March 14 around 3 p.m. Little information was available on the incident, which saw the girls escape to a neighbour, however Nanaimo RCMP have identified a vehicle they believe could be involved.

A dark purple or brown 2000 Acura 1.6 EL sedan was seen on a home security system in the area of the 5200 block of Lost Lake Rd. around the time the attack occurred.

“We cannot say it’s associated to the home invasion, but we can’t identify who the driver is and we’d like to speak with the individuals either driving that car or who own that car,” Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Police also noted the car is missing a front, passenger side turn signal.

The image provided by Nanaimo RCMP comes from a home security camera in the area of the crime, however O’Brien wouldn’t say exactly where.

“We can’t cross this off as just a vehicle in the area,” O’Brien said. “We don’t know if it’s a home owner or somebody visiting, or possibly the vehicle may have been involved to the home invasion, we just can’t put a marker on that yet.”

After the bear spray was unleashed, the person responsible then stole some items from the home, including a hockey bag filled with electronics.

Anyone with information on the vehicle is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250 754 2345, with file number 2022-8688.
