NANAIMO — The Clippers did all their scoring in the second period and got 41 saves from Cooper Black in a 2-1 victory over the Grizzlies.

Ellis Rickwood scored four minutes into the contest but Black stymied Victoria the rest of the way.

Sean Donaldson scored his team leading 34th goal in the second period and Kai Daniells notched the winner a few minutes later on the man advantage.

The shots finished 41-29 in Victoria’s favour with both Black and the Grizzlies Kyle Kelsey having standout performances in net.

The Clippers went 1/2 on the power play and 4/4 killing penalties.

Nanaimo shutout BCHL scoring leader Matthew Wood in the game, it was the first time the 2005 born phenom had been blanked since Feb. 11.

With the win Nanaimo moved into second place in the Coastal Division and extended their season series lead over the Grizzlies to 4-1-1.

Next up the Clippers visit Cowichan Valley on March 19 and host Coquitlam on March 20.

The regular season finale is against the Grizzlies at Frank Crane Arena on March 25.
