Feb 21, 2022 | 5:00 PM

PORT ALBERNI — The Clippers got out to an early lead but couldn’t continue their momentum in a 4-2 loss to the Bulldogs.

Sean Donaldson on a power play and Jake Hewitt staked Nanaimo to a 2-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes.

It was a milestone goal for Donaldson who collected his 30th of the season.

The Bulldogs turned the tables in the second frame scoring two goals of their own by Finn Brown and Braden Blace.

Midway through the third period Brandon Buhr put the home team in front, and a goal with six minutes remaining by Stephen Castagna salted away the win for Alberni.

The shots finished 38-32 for the Bulldogs with Jed Baliotti taking the loss in net.

On special teams Nanaimo went 1/2 on the power play and 4/4 on the penalty kill.

The Clippers lead the season series 4-2 with one head to game remaining in Port Alberni on Mar. 13.

Next up Nanaimo will travel to Langley and Chilliwack on Feb. 25 and 26.
