NANAIMO — Local Mounties are looking for a man in his 40’s who robbed a store at gun point.

A 911 call was made around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26 from a business in the University Village near the corner of Fifth St. and Bruce Ave.

Cst. Sherri Wade told NanaimoNewsNOW the store clerk said he was threatened with what looked like a handgun.

“Members were nearby and responded quickly. They set up containment to allow Police Dog Services to hopefully set up a track but they were unable to locate the suspect.”

The suspect escaped with some cash and lottery tickets.

He’s described as caucasian, around 40 years old, 5’6″ tall and was wearing a black ski mask and blue coat.

Wade said their investigation continues after the suspect was not located on the night of the incident.

“That’s a very busy area, that was the main priority to try and block in a suspect but there’s a lot of ways to leave that area on foot or in a vehicle.”

Officers continue to conduct neighbourhood inquiries with surrounding businesses and home owners, collecting security footage.

Wade also said anyone with dash cam footage from the Harewood area around the time in question is asked to contact police via the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250 754 2345.
