NANAIMO — Two people sustained serious injuries after a shooting at a home in south Nanaimo.

Several RCMP officers, Nanaimo Fire Rescue and BC Emergency Health Services were called to a home on Needham St. at Centre St. on Friday, Jan. 28 around 10:30 a.m.

Witnesses said they heard what sounded like a gunshot.

BC RCMP Sgt. Chris Manseau told NanaimoNewsNOW one man was seriously injured by a gunshot, while another man was seriously injured from an apparent assault.

A third person was treated on scene for minor injuries by attending paramedics.

Manseau said several people in the home suffered from the lasting impacts of bear spray.

“At this time we strongly suspect that he suspect and the victims are known to each other and there’s no threat to the public.”

Meanseau said no arrests have been made.

Nanaimo RCMP officers continue to investigate. The home is cordoned off with police tape in anticipation of police executing a search warrant, Manseau said.

The home is located on Snuneymuxw First Nation land.
