NANAIMO — Road work is severely restricting daytime traffic flow in both directions on Hwy. 19 through Nanoose Bay and Lantzville.

Drive BC stated paving operations on Monday, Dec 20 and Tuesday, Dec 21 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. is result in late closures just north of Superior Rd. impacting both directions.

As of the noon hour Monday traffic is severely backed up, particularly for vehicles heading south.

Drive BC expects minor delays heading north in the area to continue through Dec. 24 at noon.

No detour is available.

NanaimoNewsNOW reached out to Mainroad Group for clarification of the work being conducted and its construction schedule.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure recently informed our newsroom that permanently fixing a sinkhole in the area following mid November flooding would not occur until the spring.
