Nanaimo Loaves and Fishes seeking volunteers for busy holiday season

Nov 22, 2021 | 5:37 AM

NANAIMO — While the need to access food banks usually increases near the holiday season, community generosity seems to rise with it.

Peter Sinclair, executive director at Nanaimo Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank, said while his days are getting busier as we head into December, their shelves remain stocked.

“With that increased need, the community has always responded and made sure we have what we need to make sure everyone has a great Christmas.”

While Sinclair says they are looking for their usual essential donation items like canned goods, pasta, sauces, and cash donations, the one thing they are looking for right now is volunteers.

“Everything from sorting food, to distributing food to helping out with our Empties for Food program… people can go to our website starting Nov. 22 and they can see which volunteer shifts are available and they can sign up right there.”

He said they are also dropping the need for volunteers to undergo orientation for the holiday season, which makes signing up to be a volunteer quick and easy.

Registration for volunteers starts on Monday, Nov. 22, and can be done at nanaimoloavesandfishes.org.

You can also donate on the website, over the phone, or in person. You can also donate on the website, over the phone, or in person.
