NANAIMO — A staffing issue is causing major disruption to ferry service between Gabriola Island and Vancouver Island.

BC Ferries said the MV Quinsam will be operating on a modified schedule until further notice, with early morning and evening sailings replaced.

A specific number of crew members need to be on board in order to comply with Transport Canada regulations and ensure the safe delivery of passengers.

A ten-passenger only water taxi will run early morning and evening sailings for those who need to travel. Tickets can be purchased at the Nanaimo Harbour ticket booth.

The passenger-only water taxi will run from Gabriola Island starting at 5:15 a.m. to Nanaimo Harbour until just before 7 a.m, then again from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.

The modified schedule is available below.
