NANAIMO — The Clippers built up a 5-1 lead but had to hold on at the end for 5-4 win over the Alberni Valley Bullogs.

Despite being outshot 14-9 Nanaimo built up a 3-0 lead in the opening period.

Austin Spiridakis, Tristan Fraser and Max Itagaki on the power play provided the scoring.

Nanaimo chased Alberni Valley starter Hobie Hedquist from the net and backup Jackson Glassford started the second period for the visitors.

In the middle frame the Clippers added two more goals by Sean Donaldson and Kai Daniells.

The shots were 25-14 for the Bulldogs but Nanaimo led 5-1 thanks in large part to the goaltending of Cooper Black.

The final 20 minutes yielded three goals by Alberni Valley but the Clippers held on for a narrow victory.

Alberni Valley outshot Nanaimo 39-21 with the Clippers going 1/3 on the power play and 3/4 on the penalty kill.

The Nov. 17 three stars were 1) Tristan Fraser 2) Ryan Nause 3) Ethan Mistry.

Nanaimo will host the Wenatchee Wild on Nov. 19 but their game scheduled for Nov. 20 versus Trail has been postponed because of the damage around the province from recent rain storms.
