Water Cooler: Downtown revitalization, disc golf versus volleyball & source of COVID-19 infections
NANAIMO — The Water Cooler is NanaimoNewsNOW’s letters to the editor-style segment, featuring conversations about the news in Nanaimo and Oceanside.
This week’s feature discusses two recreational sports competing for space in Bowen Park, the source of increasing COVID-19 infections on the central Island and downtown revitalization.
N. Longo, Nanaimo: Traditionally the disc golf course was in use way before volleyball got set up. Hence the paths we use on that course historically precede the volleyballers.
That said, the volleyball courts would be a lot safer with netting on the side that faces the disc golf course. Also there is alternate space that could be utilized to the North of the lower parking lot and the river.
I’m tired of the volleyballers complaining when the city built the courts where they are now knowing full well the courts were going to be in the way of the disc golfers. The parks department and city knew of the problem when they built the courts in that unsuitable space.
