NANAIMO — The Clippers continue piling up wins in the early season with a 3-1 victory over Alberni Valley.

Michael Craig’s first goal of the season was the only tally of the opening period.

It put Nanaimo up 1-0 for the seventh consecutive game.

The Bulldogs turned things around in the second period with goals four minutes apart by Mirko Buttazzoni and a power play tip in by Josh Zary.

Nanaimo turned the tables again in the third with two goals in one minute and 22 seconds.

Kai Daniells tied the contest with a shot off the left wing and Skyler Cameron pinballed the game winner behind goalie Hobie Hedquist.

Cooper Black picked up his sixth straight win for the Clippers stopping 30 shots.

The Bulldogs outshot Nanaimo 32-25 on the night.

It was a disciplined game for both sides with Alberni Valley going 1/3 on the power playing and the Clippers finishing 0/2.

Nanaimo was without head coach Darren Naylor and defenceman Andrew Noel due to suspension over an illegal equipment call in the Oct. 22 game versus Coquitlam.

They will be eligible to return for the Clippers upcoming road trip to Trail Oct. 29 and Cranbrook Oct. 30.

As they set out for the trip Nanaimo is tied with Prince George for first overall in the BCHL with a 6-1 record and 12 points.
