NANAIMO — A weekend of wet weather is on the way.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for areas between Nanoose Bay and Fanny Bay, along with a special weather statement for eastern Vancouver Island between Duncan and Nanaimo.

Upwards of 75 to 100 millimetres are expected throughout Oceanside beginning Friday, Oct. 15 and continuing through Saturday.

“Two successive frontal systems will cross the south coast between today and late Saturday night, with high water content associated with an Atmospheric River flowing off the Pacific Ocean,” the warning read.

Slightly less rain is forecast for Nanaimo and parts south, however Environment Canada is still warning swelling of local streams and localized flooding are possible across the entire region.

An atmospheric river is descending onto Vancouver Island beginning Friday, Oct. 15 and continuing through most of the weekend. (Windy)

Overnight lows are expected to stay well away from freezing near the water, however higher elevations could see a dusting which would then melt and contribute to water run-off.

Western Vancouver Island, parts of the Sunshine Coast and Lower Mainland have similar rainfall warnings while areas of the Kootenay’s are bracing for snowball with around 15 centimetres expected.
