NANAIMO – The Clippers played a game in front of their home fans for the first time since the spring of 2020.

They had four different goal scorers and a 36 save performance from Cooper Black in a 4-2 victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Sept. 24.

Coincidentally the Clippers last home game was also against Alberni Valley in Game 2 of the playoffs on Feb. 29, 2020.

Austin Spiridakis and Matt Edwards staked Nanaimo to a 2-1 lead through twenty minutes and Michael Craig on the power play and Charles Tardif extended the lead to 4-1 before the end of the second period.

Brady McIsaac scored in the first and third period for the Bulldogs.

The final shots finished 38-37 for Alberni Valley with the Clippers going 1/5 on the power play.

Nanaimo killed off the Bulldogs only power play on a five minute major assessed to Brody Waters in the first period.

The same two teams will battle at Weyerhauser Arena on Sept. 25 at 7pm.

Nanaimo will dress a much different roster with veterans like new captain Jack O’Brien, Keighan Gerrie and Luke Lavery expected to make their preseason debuts.
