NANAIMO — A man has life-threatening injuries after a mid-day dirt bike crash in Nanaimo.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said the crashed happened in the 3700 block of Rock City Rd. at about 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3 involving a rider not wearing a helmet.

“It’s very early in the investigation, but it appears speed may have been involved with the driver losing control.”

O’Brien said the man with significant wounds was taken from the scene in a ground ambulance and then flown to hospital in Victoria.

Nanaimo RCMP closed off Rock City Rd. between Barrington Rd. and Ocean Pearl Terr. for nearly four hours, which re-opened at 3:45 p.m.
