Horse’s tail cut off – RCMP asking for public’s help

Jul 29, 2021 | 12:47 PM

KAMLOOPS – RCMP are investigating a disturbing incident in the Monte Creek area, 25 kilometres east of Kamloops.

The Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment’s Livestock Section was called to a property on the 1500 block of Monte Creek Road after a horse had its tail cut off overnight.

The incident occurred July 5, 2021.

The animal was not seriously injured but is no longer able to swat away flies and other insects that bite.

Police say this type of crime has occurred before in other parts of the province.

“It’s really disheartening to think someone would sneak up on a horse and cut its tail off,” said Corporal Cory Lepine of the Livestock Section.

Although it’s not known why someone removed the tail, RCMP say horse hair is often used in different types of crafts.

Anyone with information on this or another similar occurrence not yet reported to police, should reach out to the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP at 250-314-1800 and reference file 2021-23068.
