NANAIMO – Moving into a new home will help a valuable Nanaimo organization move into a larger space of their own.

The newest house for the Dream Home Lottery is being built in the Lantzville Foothills, with the proceeds going to the Nanaimo Community Hospice.

Paige Karczynski, executive director of Nanaimo Community Hospice, said the money raised through the lottery will kickstart an upcoming capital campaign for a new facility.

“Our local hospital is completely overwhelmed with palliative care, so we need to step in with a facility and have some beds so we can take care of those who are end of life and help out doctors at the hospital.”

Money raised will also allow for th expansion of the many programs offered, which include counselling and therapy for those losing loved ones.

Karczynski said this is the largest fundraising event the Society has taken part in.

Not only is this a fundraising initiative for us to grow and expand, it’s also an initiative for us to educate and advocate for the amazing work and compassionate care we provide for folks at the end of their life or grieving.”

The 3,000 square foot home on High Ridge Crescent in the Lantzville Foothills will be built by Momentum Design Build Inc, in partnership with the Society and the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Vancouver Island.

The finished home is expected to cost around $1.7 million and be ready in 2022.

Tickets for the lottery are expected to become available shortly.
