PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers scored first but couldn’t build up any more offense in a 4-1 loss to Alberni Valley.

A pair of individuals celebrated milestones with Brody Waters scoring his first BCHL goal and netminder Ethan Neitsch getting his first start in the league.

Waters put Nanaimo up 1-0 with the only goal of the first period but the Bulldogs countered with three in the second and one more in the final frame to collect the victory.

Neitsch made 41 saves on 45 shots while his teammates fired 48 at Alberni goalie Luke Pearson.

Nanaimo was 0/4 on the man advantage and 2/3 on the penalty kill.

The Clippers also killed off a five on three for over a minute in the second period.

Defenseman Jack O’Brien showed his determination by dressing to play limited minutes.

He was listed as a scratch but was a surprise addition to the lineup which drew praise from coach Darren Naylor.

“I didn’t know what he was going to be able to give us but every little but helps. We’re a little beat up right now.”

The Clippers have a short turnaround with a 1 p.m date with the Cowichan Valley Capitals on April 21.

Nanaimo is 3-1 against Cowichan this year.
