PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers put the brakes on a two game slide by beating the Capitals 5-2.

Nanaimo built up a 4-0 lead on goals by Tristan Fraser and Liam Ryan in the first period, Mike Craig on a power play in the second and Jaeger Murdock in the third.

The Capitals scored two goals in a three minute span of the final period to inch closer, but an empty netter by Nolan Hutcheson secured the win.

Both Jordan Naylor and Lucas Pfeil were busy in net with Cowichan outshooting Nanaimo 48-39.

Naylor was named the game’s first star with 46 saves.

For the second straight game the Clippers gave up seven power plays and killed off six.

They have the fourth best penalty killing in the league at over 86 percent and Nanaimo is also a league low -12 in power play to shorthanded differential.

With three games remaining in their season series the Clippers are 3-1 against the Capitals.

Nanaimo will play Alberni Valley on April 15 and have weekend clashes with Victoria and the Bulldogs again on April 17 and 18.
