NANAIMO — Police are investigating a tragic single-vehicle crash south of Nanaimo.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said a silver Mercedes driven by a 19-year-old man crashed on Yellow Point Rd. for unknown reasons some time overnight between Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21.

The car was found around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday by a Cedar resident driving by.

“We don’t know exactly when it happened because there’s no direct witnesses to the crash,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien said speed and alcohol haven’t been ruled out in the early stages of the investigation.

Officers are now asking for any dash cam footage from anyone who remembers seeing a silver Mercedes the nights in question.

“The video evidence would be useful if the vehicle was seen so we can make a determination of when the crash would’ve happened.”

Family has been notified about the loss.
