NANAIMO — A man caught red-handed with a large child porn collection was given a nine month non-custodial sentence and two years probation.

Kyle Patrick McGuire, 31, was sentenced on Wednesday, March 3 at provincial court in Nanaimo after pleading guilty during a court appearance last October.

The Crown’s Ken Paziuk said Oceanside RCMP used a search warrant at McGuire’s Bowser home on June 26, 2018.

Paziuk said McGuire stood outside his home while officers searched inside.

“One of the officers noticed that he had in his hand a USB drive. The USB drive was seized from him and the subject material was located on that drive.”

A sampling of the more than 1,000 videos on the drive uncovered men sexually abusing boys, some as young as toddlers.

An on-site caregiver provided background information to police on McGuire, stating he had profound issues processing emotionality and understanding, while also displaying paranoia.

Numerous restricted court-ordered conditions tailored for sex offenders were applied to McGuire.

He can’t access the internet or leave his property without permission during his house arrest or probationary term.

The offender was also ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment as part of his rehabilitation plan.

McGuire’s name will be placed on the National Sex Offender Registry for 10 years. The database allows police easier tracking ability of sex offenders.

McGuire has several dated criminal convictions primarily for property crimes, including an eight months jail sentence for a 2008 break-and-enter in Parksville.
