PARKSVILLE — The first COVID-19 immunization clinic for the Oceanside region is confirmed.

The Parksville Community Centre will turn into a vaccination clinic from March 15 through September, open 12 hours a day, seven days a week.

The City of Parksville said it’s expected roughly 60,000 Oceanside region residents will be vaccinated at the clinic by September.

In Nanaimo, dates and operational times of a clinic at the Beban Park Social Centre are expected from Island Health. Signage directing residents to the clinic at Beban Park were set up in recent days.

On Monday, March 1, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said the general B.C. population is on track to start receiving the first dose of vaccine in April. Clinics will start accepting the oldest members of general population and work downwards through five-year age brackets.

As of Monday, Island Health has 303 active COVID-19 cases with 188 active in the central Vancouver Island region.
